YouTorrent is a meta search engine for torrent files. YouTorrent indexes the torrent files found on the most popular torrent websites like Mininova, The Pirate Bay, isoHunt, SumoTorrent, myBittorrent, Monova, Vuze, BitTorrent, LegitTorrents, SeedPeer, and BTjunkie.
Often confused with µTorrent, the popular BitTorrent client, that is actually pronounced micro-torrent because of the "µ" character is mistaken for the letter "u". YouTorrent is similar to search engines such as Google, with a fairly simple home page prompting the user to search for files using the large text box. Other than its broad reach of torrent websites, a major draw to YouTorrent is its notable lack of advertising often found on Torrent sites. Often the ads are pornographic in nature, and thus YouTorrent provides a viable alternative to visiting the Torrent websites directly.
Explosive Growth
YouTorrent first launched on January 3rd, 2008, but quickly climbed to 150,000 searches within three days, thanks largely to a glowing review on TorrentFreak and the subsequent digg effect. YouTorrent claims that they receive 300,000 searches per day (as of Jan 31, 2008) and are projecting 500,000 searches per day by the end of February 2008. Torrent websites are seeing explosive growth in general, and YouTorrent may be the fastest growing of the lot, reaching the top 25 most visited torrent websites after only 2 months since launch.
