Notepad is a plain text editor that is included free with every version of Microsoft Windows since 1985. The software is has minimal functionality and a very plain interface. Up to, and including, Windows 95 FixedSys was the only font used in the program.
Now, users can can change the default font, which is initially set up as Lucida Console. It has minimal line counting functionality that only appears in the status bar with word wrap disabled.

#windows_notepad Sometimes Notepad is all you need. But otherwise no reason not to switch to Notepad++ (also UltraEdit is pretty good)
