Urbanspoon

Urbanspoon is a restaurant information/recommendation service that competes directly with OpenTable and Yelp. As well as being available for desktop use, it hosts a site at urbanspoon.com/m that is cell-phone friendly.

iPhone users, on the other hand, have the option of downloading — for FREE — ‘Urbanspoon for the iPhone.’ This unique application is described as being “part Magic 8 Ball, part slot machine.” The user merely shakes their phone, and the app utilizes the phone’s integrated GPS to pinpoint his/her location and then locate a nearby restaurant. If the restaurant doesn’t suit the user’s fancy, he or she just shakes it again.
