Media Player Classic

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Lightweight compared to competitors. Very stable. Uses GPGPU to decode H264\MPEG-4 videos and offloads cpu.

The Cons:Poor playlist support. Playlist interface (6.4.9.0).

Media Player Classic (MPC) is a compact free software media player for Microsoft Windows. The application mimics the look and feel of the old, light-weight Windows Media Player 6.4 and uses a completely different codebase, integrating many options and features found in modern media players.

Media Player Classic was created and is currently maintained by a programmer named "Gabest". Gabest originally developed Media Player Classic as a closed-source application, but later decided to make it open source. Media Player Classic is licensed under the GPL and has its own SourceForge.net project called Guliverkli.

A large number of the codecs, readers, and splitters are also available separately from the Guliverkli project page.

GT-D: #media_player_classic This shouldn't really be compared to foobar and winamp... its not really meant to be a music player, and foobar and winamp aren't really meant to be video players.

I really like it though... It occasionally has issues crashing when you drag from one monitor to another, but it seems thats a facet of playing videos on a PC in general more then MPC. Feb 22, 08
