The Cons:A challenging initial install. Might brick your phone getting to work. Not officially supported by carriers / phone manufacturers.
CyanogenMod is an aftermarket firmware built-on the open-source Android operating system. It offers features not found in the official Android firmwares or the vendor-specific firmwares. It supports more than 20 smart phones and is updated very regularly for each of these phones.
The current version is CyanogenMod 7 released January 20th, 2010 based off Gingerbread Android 2.3.3. The firmware is developed by the Cyanogen team including Cyanogen himself, Steve Kondik.
